Course Description:
Accounting & Finance are the languages of business. Inability of understanding the basics of accounting and finance could lead to serious risks. Accordingly, senior management is required to grasp the basic framework of accounting and finance to be able to understand the different accounting methods and their effect on the financial position of the company, as this would affect their decisions.


This course offers a comprehensive overview of the basics of accounting and finance to help the participants to easily communicate with financial department in their companies, in addition acquiring the ability to understand and evaluate company's financial performance that affect their daily and long term decisions.

Course Content:
 

Part 1: Major Accounting Concepts:

 

Module 1:

  • Introduction to Accounting.

  • Illustrate the different assumptions of accounting and analyze the effects of business transactions on the basic accounting equation.

 Module 2:

  • Define debits and credits and identify the basic steps in the recording process.

  • Explaining by the use of a numerical example the recording process in accounting.

  • Introduction to accrual accounting and the matching principal and introduction to adjusting entries.

 Module 3:

  • Basic Financial Statements (Income Statement and Balance Sheet).

  • Introducing the cash flow statement and identifying each of the operating, investing and financing activities.

Module 4:

  • Illustrate the different methods of Inventory and illustrating the effect of each on the financial statements.

  • Illustrate the different methods of depreciation showing the effect of each on the financial statements, illustrating the disposal of fixed assets.

  • A comprehensive case.

Part 2: Financial Statements & Analysis:

 

Module 1: Financial Statements:

  • Objective of financial statements

  • Elements of financial statements

  • The balance sheet

  • The profit and loss account

  • The cash flow statement

Module 2: Interpretation of financial statements

  • Ratio analysis and key indicators

  • Profitability

  • Liquidity

  • Gearing and financial structure

  • Investor ratios

Module 3: Tools for management decisions

  • Break-Even analysis

  • Payback spend

  • Time value of money

  • NPV

Module 4: Valuation Concepts

  • Asset-Based valuations

  • Earnings-based valuations

  • Market-Based Valuations

  • Future Earnings valuation
