Introduction:

The program aims at covering the fundamentals of Project Planning & Management and providing them with the basic tools and knowledge to how to develop a Project Schedule / Plan taking into consideration the Time and Cost/Budget aspects of the project.   

The workshops will assist the target participants to:

 

Know the difference in nature of responsibilities, role, and authority of the operational / line manager and the project manager. To know the different nature of project organization structures and the role of the project manager in it, and the required skills to effectively manage the project team.

 

Introduce a systematic approach to how to think of a project and breakdown it into activities and tasks seem required to finish the whole project. This approach includes Work Breakdown Structure, tasks identification, tasks sequencing, scheduling, resource allocation, budgeting, ..etc. in order to develop finally to project time schedule and project cash flow (Project Baseline)

 

Learn how to assess the project progress and be able to develop the project progress indicators and properly report the deviation of the actual implementation versus its baseline plan. Also to help the project manager and team member to effectively take proactive actions to re-follow the plan if possible.

 

Become familiar with the one of the familiar computer software in project planning (Microsoft Project 2003) and its features.

SESSION (2)

Identifying the Project

  • Project Statement & SOW

  • Project Charter

  • Project Work Breakdown Structure – WBS

  • Different Approaches to develop project WBS

 

Group Exercise – Developing a WBS for a project

 

SESSION (3)

Developing Realistic Time Schedule

  • Program Evaluation & Review Technique (PERT), and Critical Path Method (CPM)

  • Activities Constraints, Milestones, and inter-dependency

  • The Network calculation and defining the Critical Path of the project

  • Activities’ Total Float & Free Float and how to get use of them in managing projects

  • Developing Project Bar / GANTT Chart, and Network Diagram

  • Key points when estimating of time

Resources In Project Planning & Budgeting

  • Allocating resources - Resource Loading & Profiling

  • Project cost components / accounts

  • Techniques in managing resources, and refining the project plan

  • Project Cash Flow and the S-Curve

  • Components of the completed project baseline plan

Project Implementation- follow up the baseline plan

  • Monitoring & controlling process of the Project

SESSION (6)

Extended Demo/ Tutorial on Using MS Project 2003 in Project Planning & Management

Ø      To present the different features and utilities of the software in developing a project plan, Tracking progress against the project Baseline plan, and generating different types of useful reports

  • Setting-up the project calendar/s – duration & Elapsed-duration

  • Adding tasks, and linking them together – developing GANTT chart

  • Understanding how the equation (Work = Duration x Units) work when assigning resources to tasks

  • Sorting, organizing, and filtering project information

  • Formatting your project plan

  • Generating Repots

  • Defining project resources, assigning it to tasks, and Resource Leveling

  • Working with resource pool, multiple, and consolidated projects

  • Tracking progress against the project Baseline plan

Team Leaders, Project Team Members, Account Managers who work in projects or functional managers who work in project-based type of organization and contribute in company’s project tasks.
